I Do Care

You are brilliant, like a star...

In the very poignant song “One More Light,” written by Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda and English songwriter Eg White, the question is asked “who cares if one more light goes out?” And the verse answers with “well…I Do…” Thus the inspiration for this website, and the goal of bringing more awareness of how important each individual is to this world. Written in memory of friends who had passed, the message that is foremost is that there are many people who do care. They care if you are here. They care if you are alive. They care if you are happy. They care if you are doing well.

When I first heard this song, it really hit home. I am familiar with the struggle of depression, and thoughts of inadequacy and wondering why I am here. How very hard it is to talk to anyone and really open up, and not be judged. And know of others who also struggle with the same issue. While the song was written for a friend who lost a battle with cancer, it is also very appropriate for those who are suicidal. If we, as a society, could open up and allow those people, anyone, who is hurting, to be heard, and not judged, how much better this world would be. Because each one of us is important, unique and special. There is no one else like us!

Over time, listening to this song, I was inspired to want to create a t-shirt, a sticker, or maybe earrings, bracelets and necklaces, with the hope of allowing those who honestly care to share that to the world. To be available for those who may just need someone to talk to. Or for those who may be comforted, just by seeing or hearing the words that they are loved, and someone does care. No matter the reason.

My dream is to use the profits of sales at I Do Care – You Are Loved to work towards greater awareness of suicide prevention, and to also help those who are grieving for lost loved ones. These goals would include setting up centers nationwide where animal, art, equine, horticulture, nature, and music therapies are available. All of these have been proven to provide comfort to those who either work in these fields, or partake in the various activities. These centers will also offer a safe refuge for those who are struggling and need a non-judgmental place to heal.

( Below are my favorite versions of this touching song. The singer in Linkin Park’s version committed suicide not long after this video was created. In the video by One Voice Children’s Choir, the choir leader learned of the loss of a previous choir member. )
